    Department of Biotechnology, I.T.S-IHAS celebrated National Science Day on 28th Feb, 2020. This day is celebrated to commemorate the contribution of the Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman, an Indian Physicist. It is being praised each year to generally spread a message about the Importance of science utilized as a part of the everyday life of the general population and to show all the activities, endeavors and accomplishments in the field of science for human welfare. . The celebration started with addressing the students about the significance of the Science Day and the contribution of women in science by Dr. Surendra Singh (Principal -Biotech) and Dr. C. S Ram (Director- Physiotherapy). Students also gave presentations and participate in quiz competition for increasing awareness about science.

    Department of Biotechnology, I.T.S-IHAS, Ghaziabad organized a one-day Eco Adventure Camp at Madhavgarh Farm, Gurugram for the students of Biotechnology.

    To break the monotony of the routine and recharge the students with new energy, a fun filled with this camp. As the excited group ventured into the camp site, they received a warm welcome by the friendly staff of the camp. After relishing over a sumptuous breakfast, the camp commenced with the students being briefed about the precautions to be taken during the camp and were then divided into smaller groups with an instructor and teachers. The participants were exposed to various adventure and thrilling activities like artificial River Crossing, Wall Climbing, Commando Crawl, Commando Net, Balance Beam, Tunnel Crossing etc. These day long activities helped to strengthen the bond of friendship and instilled teamwork. Entertaining activities like Magic Show, Tractor ride, Camel cart ride etc. gave them a glimpse of rustic life. The day culminated as they happily danced on peppy tunes. Overall it was a joyful trip with loads of adventure and excitement, thus making it a memorable day for the students.

    An academic visit was carried out to Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India located in NCR Biotech Science Cluster, Faridabad for B.Sc III students on 17.02.2020. On reaching the institute, we were received by DrSiuli; where she  briefed  about the visit and explained major research themes undertaken by the institute. During the visit the students were taken to the Bio-Repository Lab headed by Dr. DrPallaviKshetrapal, She explained how the lab is focused towards identification of biomarkers from human circulating blood and from human placenta that can be utilised for development of translational modalities against preterm pregnancies. Students also visited the C.B.D.(The Centre for Bio-Design & Diagnostics). Here the students interacted with DrNeeraj Kumar, who briefed the studentsabout  variousequipment’s used in biotechnology research at CBD like Nano-plotter, Bioreactor & Surface Plasmon Resonance etc. The whole tour was about three hours long and students got a feel for biotechnology and bioinformatics research at the institute. It is rightly said that “See & know’ is better than ‘read & learn’. They got a chance to know that how their theoretical knowledge is applied for the benefit of mankind.

     Department of Biotechnology, ITS-IHAS, organized a programme in response to a letter from chief development officer Ghaziabad and RUSA to emphasize the importance of learning and reading the books; the main aim of which is the reading is necessary for the development of Ghaziabad and ultimately the nation. Students about 200 in number read different text books as science, arts, culture and contemporary issues as per programme of govt. of Uttar Pradesh from 11AM to 11:45 AM.  Students were free to read the books of their choice. Students prepare the notes from the text books to show the seriousness of the programme.

    Faculty members also read books and discussed the contents with other members.
